Anne Essays - Anne Frank, Women In World War II, European People

Anne Straightforward In 1933, the Nazis started to execute their arrangement to gather together all the Jews inside Europe and moving them into death camps. There, they would be executed or compelled to work til' the very end. In 1942, when the Nazis started to attack their nation, the Frank family, who were Jewish, sought total isolation in a storage room of a stockroom and place of business. The Franks' little girl, Anne, kept a journal all through their whole remain in the supposed Mystery Annexe. Albeit all the individuals from the Frank family, with the exception of Mr. Otto Frank, died during the rule of the Nazis, Anne's journal is still in presence today. Minutes before the Frank's were caught in their concealing spot following a two-year remain, Anne wrote in her journal the words, despite everything, I despite everything accept that individuals are great on the most fundamental level. How could a little youngster who had suffered so much torment say something like this? The appropriate response is in the tale of her undying fearlessness and expectation. Before Anne Frank sought total isolation, she lead a joyful and euphoric life. She was constantly encircled by companions and young men the same, also, her family was wealthy. She was torn away from her joy and set into the brutal and coldblooded truth of the Nazi's domain at just thirteen years of age. This simply because she was Jewish. She stayed secured up in the top level of the distribution center with her family and another for very nearly twenty-five months, always being unable to step foot outside. Such suppression and life of dread would make practically any youngster totally discouraged and more hopeless than words can state. Be that as it may, Anne Frank figured out how to save her expectation for a superior tomorrow and her regard for mankind ? an accomplishment so incredible for such a little youngster. Anne made an amazing articulation in her final words in her dearest journal. To really accept something like this subsequent to being mishandled by the Nazis is very astounding, to be sure. I am certain that a great many people, including myself, would have thought that the world was totally degenerate and people were normally coldblooded in the event that they'd have experienced such occasions. By saying that all individuals are great at heart, she was likewise saying that the Nazis were genuinely acceptable on a basic level. She didn't feel disdain for her abusers, yet compassion since they stooped so low and were so preferential and uninformed. I accept that Anne had the capacity to state such a thing on account of her incredible unselfishness and love for the entirety of God's animals. Despite the fact that Anne had not yet been to a death camp when she thought of her last lines, she despite everything had the dread of the Nazis and of the ghastly destiny that such a large number of different Jews were looking at that point. I likewise accept, that if Anne could have written in her journal after she had gone to the terrible inhumane imprisonments, she would have expressed precisely the same things, and would have had a considerably bigger measure of compassion toward the undeserving casualties. She was to get one of them. On account of her sparkle and undying mental fortitude, Anne Frank had the option to keep up the expectations of her relatives just as the Van Daan's during their time in covering up. Her endless love for all individuals was energized by the way that she could never let anybody's cold-bloodedness and power carry her spirits to the ground. Anne kicked the bucket at Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp in 1945, yet her voice despite everything lives on through her popular journal. Indeed, even the Nazi's, who had slaughtered more than 5,000,000 Jews before the finish of World War II, couldn't reduce the desire for tranquility of a fourteen-year-old young lady named Anne Frank.

The Relationship Between Language and Content in Poetry Essay Example

The Relationship Between Language and Content in Poetry Essay Example The Relationship Between Language and Content in Poetry Essay The Relationship Between Language and Content in Poetry Essay Exposition Topic: Verse Numerous tallented artists depict words as devices of verbal language used to construct a picture in people groups mind and to move a feeling or win a specific reason. David Waggoners Their Bodies, Langston Hughes Share-Croppers, and Ruth Collins The Song of the Factory Worker is three specific sonnets that were broke down in examination styles and the liberation of words. The three sonnets share certain highlights for all intents and purpose. The highlights between the three sonnets identifies with ethnicity, sex, age, work and the connection between lifes preliminaries. The creator Ruth Collins breaks down the obstructions ladies confronted working in a manufacturing plant. The Red block working with numerous windows is a similarity to prison or jail dividers. For instance, jail dividers or prison dividers are worked with blocks. Youre like a vampire, for any place I go, you know Im returning to you is a similarity of each course detainees take in the jail framework returns to blocks with no possibility to get away. This specific sonnet depicts the colossal sounds that exist in the industrial facility. A few sounds were The buzz, hum of the apparatus and The snap of the tacker. In any case, the most intrigued line with regards to the sonnet that stuck in the brain of the peruser was the worn out peered toward ones. This specific line is a case of each individual having a long, tedious, and occupied day at work. For instance, if Bradley Jordan has a lot of work requests to finish at work, the qualities of his physical appearance by the day's end is moderate strolling and tired-eyes. The peruser most critical line was the red-haired young lady, when the sun sets her head ablaze. This line portrays the attributes of a specific lady, working in an industrial facility, keeping up her excellence. The female assembly line laborer will sew until she turns into a drained peered toward one. In Langston Hughess sonnet, he conveys a significantly more furious methodology. In the start of the sonnet, he states Just a crowd of Negroes Driven to the field. This specific line portrays Negroes as quiet livestock, similar to oxens or jackasses. They were required to proceed to work in the cotton field with no acknowledgment of knowledge or individual worth. Langston Hughes transparently communicates his feeling in this sonnet. The purpose for the maltreatment was the skin shading. Hughes is unmistakably irate and vexed on account of the servitude with African American specialists. The maltreatment had no reasonable start and the end won't be kind. David Wagoners sonnet, Their Bodies, is an extraordinary and mixed bit of work. Wagoner utilization of analogies dismembered subjects and communicated pride for the person. He likewise made notice to the peruser that every system was honest or once a parent. David clarifies that bodies ought to be taken care of genuinely and amenably. The three sonnets reminded the perusers through illustrations that a people esteem is especially not dictated by age, sex, or race. Why the people in these specific sonnets retaliate against the desolation, agony, and suffocation? In the sonnet The Song of the Factory Worker, Collins portrayed the red block working as a terrible medication propensity. The people need to leave, yet they are brought back in light of their glad subjugation, the upbeat giggling and the melodies they sing. This depiction is much the same as medication someone who is addicted needing to stop drugs. People utilizing drugs need to stop, however the subjugation of a vibe decent high keeps them returning. Langston Hughes communicates a lot of outrage toward restraint and prejudice. He is an African American author, who is furious with himself and his siblings. Hughes doesn't depict alluring components of a lady or delightful hues in a butterfly. Step by step passes by and we are not all that much, the peruser could picture the Negroes torments and comprehend why they thought there was no expectation. The sweet and settle sonnet was the Their Bodies. This specific sonnet defies people that procure information as a matter of fact. The body is a unique vessel that has a name, past, and family. The elderly person is depicted as scars of steel-plant on the backs of his hands, on the scruff of his neck, on his arms and strong legs. Accepting this is certainly not an otherworldly work of Jesus, the dead body is a wonder. The perusers are reminded to their best to adapt genuinely and graciously. The three sonnets are composed with fabulous, magnificent, and incredible figurative language. In spite of the fact that the positions are unique, the plot of every sonnet relates working. Regardless of whether white or dark, old or youthful, female or male, the sonnets show poise for people.

Or, once you know how to do it yourself, you can practice guided imagery on your own.   Simply close your eyes for a minute and walk yourself through a peaceful scene. Think about all the sensory experiences youd engage in and allow yourself to feel as though youre really there. After a few minutes, open your eyes and return to the present moment. Meditate Meditation brings short-term stress relief as well as lasting stress management benefits. There are many different forms of meditation to tryâ€"each one is unique and brings its own appeal.?? You might develop a mantra that you repeat in your mind as you take slow deep breaths. Or, you might take a few minutes to practice mindfulness, which involves being in the moment. Simply pay attention to what you see, hear, taste, touch, and smell. When youre focused on the here-and-now, you wont be able to ruminate about something that already happened and you cant worry about something in the future. Meditation and mindfulness take practice, but it can make a big difference in your overall stress level. Practice Progressive Muscle Relaxation Progressive muscle relaxation involves relaxing all the muscles in your body, group by group.?? To practice, you can start with a few deep breaths. Then, practice tightening and relaxing each muscle group, starting with your forehead and moving down to your toes.   With practice, youll learn to recognize tension and tightness in your muscles and youll be able to relax more easily. Count slowly to three as you inhale. Hold for one second and then slowly breathe out through your nose as you count to three again.Breathe in through your nose and imagine that youre inhaling peaceful, calm air. Imagine that air spreading throughout your body. As you exhale, imagine that youre breathing out stress and tension.   Take a Walk Exercise is a fantastic stress reliever that can work in minutes. Taking a walk allows you to enjoy a change of scenery, which can get you into a different frame of mind, and brings the benefits of exercise as well. So whether you just need to take a stroll around the office to get a break from a frustrating task or you decide to go for a long walk in the park after work, walking is a simple but effective way to rejuvenate your mind and body.?? Fast-Acting Stress-Relief Strategies That Work Well at Home In the privacy of your own home, there are many stress relief strategies that can help you relax fast. So whether youve had a tough day at work or youre stressed about how much you have to do, these strategies can give you some immediate relief from your stress. Get a  Hug From a  Loved One Physical touch can do a lot to relieve your stress. Hugging a loved one can be especially beneficial. When you hug someone, oxytocin (also known as the cuddle hormone) is released. Oxytocin is associated with higher levels of happiness and lower levels of stress. Oxytocin also causes a reduction in blood pressure.?? It reduces the stress hormone norepinephrine and can produce a sense of relaxation.   So dont be afraid to ask a loved one for a hug if you need it. Its good for both of you and it can be one of the simplest forms of stress relief available. Enjoy Aromatherapy Aromatherapy has real benefits for stress reliefâ€"it can help you to feel energized, more relaxed, or more present in the moment. Emerging research suggests certain scents can alter brain wave activity and decrease stress hormones in the body.?? So whether you enjoy candles, diffusers, or body products, consider incorporating some aromatherapy into your day.   Create Artwork Getting in touch with your creative side may have been easy for you during childhood, but if you’ve lost touch with your penchant for artwork, it’s not too late to pick it up again. If you arent into drawing or painting, consider coloring in a coloring book. Adult coloring books have risen in popularity and for good reasonâ€"coloring can be a great stress reliever.?? Research consistently shows that coloring can have a meditative effect. One study found that anxiety levels decline in people who were coloring complex geometric patterns, making it a perfect outlet for stress reduction. Long-Term Stress-Relief Strategies for Lasting Health Certain habits can promote resilience to stress, as well as increase overall wellness. For example, those who  exercise  or  meditate regularly  tend to become less stressed in the face of a difficult challenge.?? So its important to create a lifestyle that will help you ward off stress and deal with challenges in a healthy way.   Eat a Balanced Diet A poor diet can bring greater reactivity toward stress.??  Emotional eating and reaching for high-fat, high-sugar foods can provide a temporary sense of relief that adds to your long-term stress. Refined carbs, like cookies and potato chips, can cause a spike in blood sugar. When your blood sugar crashes, you might experience more stress and anxiety. Consuming a healthy diet can help you combat stress over the long haul. Foods like eggs, avocado, and walnuts support mood regulation and energy balance.   Make Time for Leisure Activities Leisure activities can be a wonderful way to relieve stress.?? Yet, many people feel as though their lives are too busy for hobbies, games, or extra fun. But building time for leisure into your schedule could be key to helping you feel your best. And when you feel better, youll perform better, which means leisure time may make your work time more efficient. Whether you find joy in caring for a garden or you like making quilts, hobbies and leisure are key to living your best life. Develop a Positive  Self-Talk  Habit The way you talk to yourself matters. Harsh self-criticism, self-doubt, and catastrophic predictions arent helpful.  If youre constantly thinking things like, I dont have time for this, and I cant stand this, youll stress yourself out. Its important to learn to talk to yourself in a more realistic, compassionate manner. When you call yourself names or doubt your ability to succeed, reply with a kinder inner dialogue. Positive self-talk can help you develop a healthier outlook. And an optimistic and compassionate conversation can help you manage your emotions and take positive action.   Practice  Yoga Yoga combines physical movement, meditation, light exercise, and controlled breathingâ€"all of which provide excellent stress relief.?? And while youre likely to reap immediate benefits from a single yoga session, youre likely to receive long-term benefits if you incorporate it into your life in a consistent way.   Yoga offers a variety of physical, psychological, and spiritual benefits. To get started, you might take a class, enroll in an online program, or use an app to help you begin practicing. Express Gratitude Gratitude helps you recognize all the things you have to be thankful for. Whether youre grateful for a sunny day or thankful you arrived at work safely, think about all the good things you have in life. Gratitude also reminds you of all of the resources you have to cope with stress, which can be quite empowering.   Studies  also show grateful people enjoy better mental health, lower stress, and a better quality of life. So whether you decide to make it a habit to identify what youre grateful for as you sit around the dinner table or you decide to write down three things youre grateful for in a gratitude journal every day, make gratitude a regular habit.   Prioritize Exercise Physical activity is key to managing stress and improving mental health.?? And the best news is, there are many different kinds of activities that can reduce your stress. Join a gym, take a class, or exercise outside. Keep in mind that there are many different ways to get more physical activity in your day too. Walking, strength training, kayaking, hiking, and spin class are just a few different examples of ways you can get stress relief. Strategies That Engage in Problem-Focused Coping Most stress relievers focus on changing your emotions. But sometimes, you wont necessarily get relief until you change the environment.   This is referred to as problem-focused coping (as opposed to emotion-focused coping). Problem-focused coping involves taking steps to remove the stressor from your life (as opposed to changing how you feel about the stressor). Reassess Your To-Do Lists If youre trying to squeeze 20  hours worth of work into 16 hours, youre going to feel stressed. Reducing your workload could be key to helping you get through the day feeling better. Whether that means stepping away from a committee you joined or it involves hiring someone to complete some of your household chores for you,   Honing your time management skills can allow you to minimize the stressors that you experience, and better manage the ones you cant avoid. When you are able to complete everything on your to do list without the stress of rushing or forgetting, your whole life feels easier. Obtain Social Support Having supportive people in your life is the key to stress management. If you lack emotional support and friendship, its important to get it. That may mean reaching out to your existing network. Perhaps confiding in a family member or distant friend can help you become closer and it may give you the social support you need. You may also need to expand your network. Join an organization, attend a support group, or get professional help if you lack supportive people in your life.   Cut out Things That Add to Your Stress Sometimes, the best way to reduce your stress is to cut something out of your life. Get rid of the things that are adding to your stress so you can experience more peace.   Watching the news, being constantly connected to your digital devices, drinking alcohol, and consuming too much caffeine are just a few of the things that may add more stress to your life. Making some changes to your daily habits could be instrumental in helping you feel better. A Word From Verywell Finding the best stress relief strategies may take some experimenting. Some strategies may take practice too. But its important to keep looking for the tools that will help you manage lifes inevitable ups and downs in a healthy way. The Rise Of The Roman Empire - 1428 Words

The Roman Empire is widely regarded as one of, if not the most dominant government to ever exist. Early civilization in Europe was dominated by the Romans, and their constantly growing empire. With the help of Greek political ideas, the Romans adopted one very similar where supreme power is held by the people from their elected representatives. These representatives were a part of the Senate, where all political laws were made and enforced, very similar idea to the type of Senate that exists in America today. Originally, the power was mainly held by the upper class and the senate consisted of 300 individuals of that class. With further Republic development, the Assembly began to select two men each year as consults that held†¦show more content†¦In this government, the people technically had a direct say in government decisions. The citizens chose who they wanted to represent them in the senate. Over the years, more commoners became unhappy with the Roman government because they wanted a share of the wealth that flowed into Rome. With their service in the military over the years, they lost control of their farming lands when they returned. This unfair treatment left them demanding a greater voice in political and economical affairs. The commoners firmly believed with some sort of political power, they would be able to pass laws and distribute the nation’s wealth more fairly. Due to the upper class being outnumbered by the commoners heavily, the Senate felt there was no other choice but to let them have a say. Eventually, the social and political rights expanded and the commoners selected two of their own, known as tribunes, to represent them in the Centuriate Assembly, similar to how the consuls represented the upper class ideas. Throughout time, the commoners (Plebeians) gained their own assembly known as the Plebeian Assembly which elected their own Tribunes and held their own votes amongst the commoners, also known as plebiscites. However, the progression didn’t stop there. The Plebeians gained the freedom to share the land won in war with the upper class (patricians). Gradually, this led to complete equality when their assembly

Ccea as Biology Coursework an Investigation to Measure Free Essays

An investigation to measure the percentage light transmission, using a colorimeter, through a solution, from pH 2 – pH 9, in which jelly cubes were immersed over a 24 hour period Interpretation Written Communication of the Data C1 Pepsin is an enzyme that works in the stomach and has an optimal pH between pH 1 and 4 or in acidic conditions. From our graph it can be seen that that the lowest mean percentage light transmission for pepsin is when the buffer has a pH of 2. Trypsin is an enzyme that works in the small intestine and has an optimum pH between pH 7 and 8 or in neutral conditions. We will write a custom essay sample on Ccea as Biology Coursework: an Investigation to Measure or any similar topic only for you Order Now From our graph it can be seen that the lowest mean percentage light transmission for trypsin is when the buffer has a pH of 8. C2 and C3 As the pH of the pepsin buffer increases from pH 2 to pH 9 so too does the percentage light transmission through the buffer solution after a 24 hour period. Although when the trypsin buffer has a pH between pH 2 and 8 the percentage light transmission through the buffer solution after a 24 hour period decreases, but from pH 8 to pH 9 the percentage light transmission through the buffer solution after a 24 hour period increases. At a low pH (pH 2) the amount of gelatine broken down by the pepsin is high. We can tell this as this is when there is a low mean percentage light transmission (16. 86%) because a lot of colour of the jelly will leak in the solution causing the colour to be deeper. But at a higher pH (pH 9) the amount of gelatine broken down by the pepsin is low. We can tell this as this as there is a low mean percentage light transmission is high (34. 14%) because a little colour of the jelly will leak in the solution causing the colour to be lighter. At a low pH (pH 2) the amount of gelatine broken down by the trypsin is low so this means there is a high mean percentage light transmission (41. 5%) because a little colour of the jelly will leak in the solution causing the colour to be lighter. At a high pH (pH9) the amount of gelatine broken down by the trypsin is high so this means that there is a low mean percentage light transmission (29%) because a lot of colour of the jelly will leak in the solution causing the colour to be deeper. C4 and C5 An enzyme is a biological ca talyst which speeds up a chemical reaction without itself undergoing a permanent change. Most enzymes are globular proteins and contain active sites. The active site is the part of the enzyme which combines with the substrate. Enzymes are specific which means that one enzyme will work on one substrate. All enzymes work best at a particular pH, their optimum pH. The proteins structure of the enzyme is altered in a more alkaline or acidic solution than the specific optimum pH. When an enzyme structure is altered it cannot fit successfully with the substrate. Activity is therefore limited to a few enzyme molecules that are still unaltered or may totally stop. The protein digesting enzymes, pepsin and trypsin, will hydrolyse the substrate, gelatine. This substrate is a major component of jelly. When a coloured jelly, such as raspberry, is exposed to a protein digesting enzyme, the colour is released into the solution as the gelatine is broken down. The intensity of the colouring released into the buffer can be estimated with a colorimeter. Trypsin is often found naturally in neutral or slightly alkaline conditions. Therefore the most enzyme activity and most colour is released from the jelly would be expected at a pH 7 or 8 and in solutions above or below this pH there would be less colour released. Pepsin is often found naturally in very acidic conditions. Therefore the most enzyme activity and most colour is released from the jelly would be expected at a pH 1 or 2 and in solutions above or below this pH there would be less colour released. Evaluation D1 I consider my results to be appropriate in meeting the aims of the investigation because we used a colorimeter. This measures the percentage light transmission as a numerical value. It is more appropriate than measuring the light intensity by eye as some of the results looked extremely similar and it could be hard to distinguish between samples. It is also more appropriate than measuring the percentage change in mass of the jelly cube before and after the 24 hour period as it is difficult to extract what is left of the jelly and it is not as accurate. D2 In order to try to obtain accurate results a number of procedures had to be carried out; †¢ Firstly, we used the same specimen of jelly. Although the jelly is from the same company there could be a difference in the composition of gelatine. If this was allowed to happen it could mean that it would take longer to break down some samples than others. This would then affect the overall results of the experiment as it would create an anomaly. †¢ Secondly, we also used a colorimeter which is extremely accurate when it comes to measuring the percentage light transmission. As it measures the percentage light transmission as a numerical value. †¢ Thirdly, we only handled the side of the cuvette as if we touched the front where the light passed through it would affect how much light passed through as it will leave a finger print on the glass and make it harder for the light to pass through. †¢ Fourthly, we kept the temperature at a constant 25 °C using a water bath. At low temperatures, an increase in temperature causes an exponential increase in enzyme activity. This is because an increase in temperature provides more kinetic energy for the collisions of enzymes and substrates, so the formation of enzyme-substrate complexes increases. At high temperatures (above 40 °C), an increase in temperature causes a sharp decline in enzyme activity. This is because the bonds holding the tertiary structure of the enzyme are broken and so the active site is denatured. †¢ We tried to use the same amount of jelly as this could affect the substrate concentration. If the surface area of the substrate increases it means that it has an increased substrate concentration. As the substrate concentration increases so too does the enzyme activity. This is because a greater concentration of substrate increases the chances of collisions and the formation of enzyme substrate complexes. D3 Although the experiment was as fair as it could have been, there were some factors that were beyond our control; †¢ Firstly, we could not accurately cut the cubes into equal sizes as we did not have the equipment to make a straight incision. This would increase the surface area of the substrate which will increase the substrate concentration. This would increase the enzyme activity as it will increase the chance of collision between the enzyme and substrate and more enzyme substrate complexes can be formed. †¢ Secondly, we could not check the temperature of the water bath on a regular basis as the experiment was carried out over a 24 hour period. If the temperature had went above 25 °C it would increase the rate of reaction as it provides more kinetic energy for the collision of the enzyme and the substrate, so the rate at which enzyme-substrate complexes form is increased. Although, if the temperature decreased below 25 °C it would have the opposite effect. It would slow the rate of reaction as it will provide less kinetic energy for the collision of enzymes and the substrate, so the rate at which enzyme-substrate complexes form is decreased. D4 and D5 My experiment is reliable as it was repeated six times in the form of the pooled class result and all of the results seemed to follow the same general trend. Although, if we had more time we may have been able to do the experiment again which would make the average or mean more accurate. However, there were a few anomalies among the group results. As you can see from table 1, in the test for trypsin at pH 9, group 2’s result decreased from the previous result (pH 8) whereas every other group increased except for group 3 who’s stayed the same as the previous result (pH 8). This could be caused from a fingerprint being put on the cuvette where the light passes through; this could lower the percentage light transmission through the solution as it will cover the glass. The Emerald Forest free essay sample

All About â€Å"The Emerald Forest† movie â€Å"The Emerald Forest† is a movie produced by John Boorman in 1985 and based on a true story in the Brazilian Rainforest. The film is a about Tommy, a young boy, quickly and silently taken away by a tribe in the Amazon called, The Invisible People. His dad then, spends 10 years searching for him and eventually succeeds after running into a war party with another tribe called, The Fierce People -enemies of the invisible people- who pursue him. They finally meet by chance, but the boy refuses to go back to his original family and civilization and explains that he belongs to the forest now. The father couldnt understand the choice made by Tommy and asks the chief of the tribe to order the boy to return with him. Then, the chief says : â€Å"If I told a man to do what he does not want to do, I would no longer be chief. We will write a custom essay sample on The Emerald Forest or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page † This statement means that the chief always agrees with whatever the members of his tribe plan to do, he simply respects their choices. Thats the difference between these â€Å"primitive† society and our own. For example, in Morocco, it is normal for the state or even your teacher to order you for everything and around every day of your life. Authority is always respected and people are generally more quiet and reserved around their superiors. They will not be upfront or direct with those above them. However, in some cases, it could have meetings and people may debates and speak over with their bosses. Compared to the authority structure of the invisibles, their chief behaves as a counselor, does give advices instead of orders. In my society, the government has the power to command and doesnt care about wishes, wants and opinions of its community. And if we try to make a list of the differences and similarities between the invisibles and us, we will end up hating the system of our life. The Invisibles are peaceful people who live isolated and dont have contact with globalised civilization. Their have their own cultures and believes. They tend to enlarge their community by finding the perfect match for either men or women. They care about each other and cant live separately. Why? Because they believe in working together to face the rude life of the Amazon Forest. At this point, we can say that their lifestyle is a bit similar to ours but we really ignore the huge value of the forest as they do. The technology in general, is known as an application of science or knowledge, in order to perform a specific function and achieve a goal. The invisibles use their knowledge by making for example, knives, arrows †¦ but the Westerns use it for big investment such as building a dam. Actually, our Tommy has been kidnapped while watching his father directing the construction of a huge dam. When the invisible people see the young boy, they figure out he would be better off with them rather than with The Termite People. The name given to the white men, greedy developers, who seem to devour and destroy all the trees as the termite insect. As a conclusion of the meaning of technology, the westerns enjoy using the technology because it helps them to develop and have better life. But, the invisibles disagree with it and can do miracles to stay safe from termite people. You can see that in the end of the movie when Tommy prays for frogs believing that when frogs sing it rains. And rains will make a flood that could tear down the almost complete dam. Its one of the art of fusion with spirits revealed in the culture of the invisibles, such as merging with spirit of an eagle, to know the place of the Emerald stones and get them to camouflage their appearance. As Tomme was raised by the invisibles, he becomes one of them. And at a certain point, he had to go through specific rite of passage so he can become a man. The point being that, if he manages to survive an ordeal – which is letting kind of insects (aunts) bites him without fighting it all night long and dipping him in the water for renewal (like baptism) –, he will then become a true man, ready to take on the real world. After that, he was sent to hunt for the special stones and it is in this quest that Tomme and his real father, Bill, crossed path again. Tomme found him wounded and brought him back to the tribe. He asked the chief of the tribe to help healing Bill. And thats another power that only the chief can use it. He is able to suck any disease out of someone and blend with a spirit useful to have a powerful protection in advance. Bill go better and had also the chance to attend Tommes wedding ceremony. Actually, when one of the invisible tribe would like to get married, he has to give some sacred rocks to his father in law and is supposed to knock out his future wife in front of the villagers, then carry her off into the forest and celebrate the ceremony. Compared to traditions of the wedding night, the funeral ceremonies are totally different. When one of them dies, they used to burn the body and mix the ashes and blood together and drink it one by one. Why? Because the think, y drinking the mixing, they will keep the soul of the dead inside them and never forget it. I really dont blame Tommy for deciding living the rest of his life in the forest. Why? Because the human need that appear to bring happiness are Autonomy – Feeling that your activities are self chosen – , competence – feeling that you are effective – , relatedness – feeling a sense of closeness –, and self esteem. In our deep heart, we know that popularity, money or luxury won t make us happy because none of these can buy love, personality or intelligence. According to Sigmund Freud, there is no way to be truly happy but believes, in general, that happiness is every person’s goal in life, however, there are different social factors that negatively affect a person’s happiness. These include love, sexuality ( Eros ), ourselves, control, death and aggression ( Thanatos ) . Eros is an instinct that leads to reproduction and Thanatos in another instinct that leads to destruction. And this is exactly how the lifestyle of the invisible people is. They love each other, they care about each other, they marry and have children and die at the end. They live without control of any other part, so we can say that they are less repressive than our own culture. Otherwise, civilized humans feel that they are overpowered by nature. Although in many ways we have conquered nature with modern technological advancement, there is still anxiety and question of the unknown as well as evolution itself. Many times, our own personal relations can make one unhappy. Love, friendships, and family all can have both a positive and negative affect on happiness, depending if a person’s individual needs are satisfied. Lastly, society itself can cause unhappiness over law and control. The laws of a civilization reflect the needs of a society as a whole, not the individual person only. To be honest, I dont imagine myself living with the invisible people, especially in the most dangerous forest of the world. Even, they seem to be more sincere and straight than us, I would prefer to live in civilization, wearing clothes, having a real house and a car to move wherever I want, getting a good education and having the opportunity to travel and discover other places in all over the world. I cant live in a place where there is no safety and security, anytime you can get hurt by enemies, like animals, insects or other tribes. Otherwise, we can learn many things from their culture. And the most important thing is they never give up or lose hope and tend to find other ways to survive, help and protect each other. They also have the ability to adapt to changes, they can move from place to place without even thinking to what they can face on their unknown way. And, Im pretty sure that they can be useful to recovery many medical conditions.

How To Use Content Marketing For Startups - CoSchedule

How To Use Content Marketing For Startups You’ve worked hard on your new startup. Launch day is here. Now what? Will anyone notice? Will the world be ready? What if you already had an email list of more than 5,000 engaged subscribers who were already interested in your company and product? What if you already had an audience to buy (or trial) your new thing on day one? This is exactly how we launched just a few short years ago.  We used content marketing to build a huge email list that contained thousands of potential customers who were already rooting for us when we finally opened our doors. To do it, we went  all in on content. In fact, we started creating content before we even started writing code! Heres why your #startup should be #writing blog posts before you even start writing code.Today, I want to share a bit of that story, but more importantly, I want to show you how you can use content marketing to launch and build your startup. I will outline the five key phases that we took to ensure that our product launched to a qualified audience, developed  a steady stream of new customers, and developed one of the most trafficked blogs in our industry- all using content marketing. I’ll start from the beginning and give you the step-by-step process you can use for yourself. Phase 1: Learn To Tell Your Story Startup phase = Minimum viable product; Content phase = Minimum viable blog Ever since I read Charles Duhigg’s book,  The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business, I have been uniquely aware of the need for simple habits that will eventually lead to consistently correct behavior. Its a core part of how I now approach leadership and team development, and it’s exactly how I encourage people to approach content marketing. In the beginning, all you need to worry about is building the habit of publishing at least one blog post a week. That’s it. All you need to worry about is building the habit of publishing at least one blog post a week.I found that the easiest way to do this was by telling the story once a week, one blog post at a time. Each week, I would post about our progress in development, share recent product wireframes, or share a problem we were experiencing to  get our audience’s feedback. Not only was it a valuable (and easy) way to generate consistent content, but it was a great way to  gather feedback and get ideas from our potential customers. This blog post asked for survey feedback. This phase of content marketing for startups is about finding your audience  and attracting people who  may be drawn to your company or product over time. Don’t let yourself get bogged down in strategy. Think of it like finding product marketing fit for your blog. You should also be using this time to build an email list and audience by sharing your content regularly on social media. Of course, can help with this. :) If you want to see some of our first blog posts, here are a few: Weve Got A Big Job To Do How Your Feedback Influences What We Build The Minimum Viable CalendarUse this time to build an #email list by sharing your content regularly on #socialmedia.Phase 2: Transition To  Strategy Startup phase = Product market fit; Content phase = Content audience fit The second phase of content marketing for startups is to begin steering your content toward the ideas and topics that fit your startups mission and product. This phase is really  all about converting your regular publishing habit into a true inbound marketing approach where you use helpful content to build trust with your audience. Steer your #content toward the topics that fit your #startups mission and product. This phase  assumes that you have been able to identify an early form of product market fit. Now is the time to start directing your content toward their needs and testing your hypothesis. If you create content that is helpful for them, do they respond? Do they show  interest in your company and product? There are a ton of ways to actually develop your topics during this phase, but keep it simple. Keyword Explorer in Moz In the beginning, I would use Google and the recommended search phrases to find topics that I felt our users would care about. You can also use SEO specific tools like Keyword Explorer in Moz  and SEMrush (two of our favorites) to find important keywords and phrases. Buzzsumo.com can also be a big help. Again, while this stage is about shifting toward a defined strategy, don’t go overboard. Youre still learning, so you need to be agile enough to make changes if things are working. Your product may also be changing at this point, so be prepared to adapt. Be agile enough to make changes if things arent working. #startuplifeLastly, at this time, its still not about writing the 100% greatest content on earth. This is the minimum viable blog phase. Do just enough to prove your theories about what your audience wants and needs, then build on your successes. This phase is also a great time to double down on your email list building and social media promotion. This is the minimum viable blog phase. Your content doesnt have to be 100% Recommended Reading: 5 Easy Lead Conversion Tips For Your Email Marketing Program 8 Social Media Best Practices That Will Save You 25.5 Hours In A 2-Week Sprint Phase 3: Seek Help Startup phase = Hiring a team; Content phase = Hand-off content creation As a founder, I have always tried to do the job we are hiring for before we actually do the hiring. It helps me get perspective on the skills and talents a new hire needs in order to be successful to be successful.  It also helps me define the scope of the position so we don’t give someone so much to do that they can’t possibly be successful. This is exactly what you need to do in the third phase of content marketing for startups. During phase two, you are essentially proving your hypothesis- can you generate consistent traffic and build an audience with content? And what  exactly do you need to do it? Phase three is about taking those results and starting to scale them. At , this meant hiring a Content Marketing Lead and doubling down on staff that could create compelling graphics and downloads. This phase is about scaling your ability to acquire an audience. By adding a full-time team member, you will make sure the day-to-day management of your content is handed off to someone other than a founder of the team. This should improve consistency and overall content quality. Make sure your #content is consistently converting visitors into #email leads. After all, at this phase, your time available as a founder will continue to be marginalized. (That’s a good thing!) You should also use this phase as an opportunity to make sure that your content is consistently converting visitors into email leads or social media followers. Tools like OptinMonster and LeadPages  are great for this. We cover a bunch of tools that are perfect for converting leads in our post: 5 Plugins Guaranteed To Help You Collect More Leads. One word of caution: Adding new team members shouldn’t necessarily increase the amount of content you are producing. Ease into it, and use this phase to develop a consistent voice, quality standard, and working model of what things work and which things don’t. Phase 4: Get Analytical Startup phase = Optimizing your funnel; Content phase = Turning content into science Up until this phase, I recommend only tracking two metrics for your content marketing: page views and email subscribers. In the beginning, most content marketing is simply about developing an audience, bringing eyeballs to your product, and seeing what sticks. There are so many things in flux at this time, that it just doesn’t make sense to focus on anything else. But, at some point, that has to change. You have to start digging into Google Analytics to  understand  what  content is performing the best and why that is. You need to start digging into the analytics to understand what content is performing best and why.Up until now, you should have been writing about a wider variety of topics, even if it felt a little random at times. That’s good. It should give you a wide spectrum of data to consider and compare. If you have a product youre selling online, you should be looking at how your content is converting your visitors into users. Which topics covert the best? Use this data to write the  best possible content for your audience. Ask yourself which topics are converting the best? #content A good example of this phase for us was the use of the word ‘calendar’ in our blog post headlines. We found that blog topics that included the discussion of a calendar generated 2 to 3 times more interest in our product than topics that didn’t. This was a key insight for us that allowed us to convert our data into instant results by increasing the frequency of posts that included topics about editorial calendars. Build massive traffic. #startup #bloggingAnother major change that we made at during this phase was the inclusion of a free download or â€Å"cookie† with every blog post. We learned that by including a content-specific download in each of our posts, we could dramatically increase the number of email subscribers from those posts. This became a snowball effect. As our email list grew, so did our traffic and referrals on social media. The goal here is still fairly simple- build massive traffic. The only difference is that you want to start making sure it’s smart traffic, not just traffic for the sake of it. Recommended Reading: How To Increase Blog Traffic: 5 Ways To Make Contagious Content Phase 5:  Scale Startup phase = Scale; Content phase = Scale At this point you should have a small team of writers, designers, and editors dedicated to content marketing. You should be a total ace at shipping high quality content consistently and converting your visitors into loyal email subscribers. Your traffic should be growing consistently, and your influence in the industry should be skyrocketing. There’s only one problem. All of the instructions for making it happen are locked in your head. This means that you have a scaling problem. How long does it take to train in a new hire? How can you continue to execute at a high level while maintaining your obviously high bar of quality? The is the part of content marketing where you need to start writing things down. At , this included an intense series of documents that outlined our entire process. At any time, our content team would be able to reference the checklist and stay on par with our expected level of quality. Start #writing down your ideas so that you dont forget them.We stay on track with these task templates. Once we developed the checklist, we were able to convert it into a killer task template inside of . It made sure we never missed a beat  and allowed us to start taking on new challenges. Like: Developing a series of ebooks targeted at key customer pain points. Shifting our content to a stronger â€Å"demand generation† approach. Getting nerdy with spreadsheets and starting to develop a literal formula for perfect content. Increasing our content publishing schedule with confidence that it would provide the right results. Focusing entirely on content that generates demand for our tools, not just traffic. All of these sound pretty great, right? The point is that scaling allows you to grow, but it also allows you to make the leap from audience to acquisition with ease. Once you know how to build, maintain, and grow a blog audience, you can do the exact same thing with customers and your product. Of course, if you have been doing it right, your content should have been converting customers all along. I can say with confidence that our blog has also been our #1 driver of new customers. Now you can squeeze every last drop of value from the audience you’ve worked so hard to build. Recommended Reading: Heres How You Can Double Your  Blog Conversion Rate Right Now How To Create Content That Converts By Writing Your Reader Happy How To Delight Your Marketing Target Audience To Boost Conversions Go Forth And Market Your Startup Good content marketing for startups isn’t necessarily easy. It takes a ton of work, and more importantly, commitment. Its important to recognize that good content marketing is a long-term strategy and not a short-term boost in the arm. Realize that every step of the process is designed to prepare you for what’s to come just as much as it should benefit you right now. With the right perspective, content marketing should become the best investment your startup ever makes. I can tell you that without it at , we never would have made it as far as we have with it.

Hospitality Information paper Term Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Hospitality Information - Term Paper Example become a priority for many hotels as the industry growing very fast, so there is a need to conserve energy not to mention the customers’ preference for hotels that have gone green. In the hotel industry, going green means many things. Green technology, which was once used as luxury in hotels is now a very important idea to adopt that is seeing unwilling hotels lose customers and profits. Different hotels embrace the green technology in different ways. This may include recycling waste in the hotel, reusing materials such as towels, using solar and wind energy, making organic food whose waste could be easily disposed and decreasing the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere among others (Kasavana, 2008). There are many ways through which hotels can use green technology. Conserving energy is very important in any industry and many ways are available for obtaining this objective. A common way is using solar energy that makes use of the renewable energy from the sun. Some hotels have solar panels installed in their buildings. The solar cells in the panels get energy once exposed to the sun and change it into electricity that can be used to perform many activities needing electricity. A plus for solar energy is that it can be kept safe for later use, and it does not harm the environment in any way. When used in place of electricity costs of producing electricity and level of pollution decreases. Wind energy that does not harm environment can also be used in places with a lot of wind where wind turbines move with wind and produce electricity. Solar and wind energy are a good strategy to green technology because they make use of the available natural energy reducing the need for power fro m electricity plants and also do not produce greenhouse gases that harm the environment(Hotels Going the Green Way with Technology, 2013). The design of hotel buildings also plays a big role in using the green technology. With the use of more environmentally friendly

Film History Essays -- The Silent Era of Film

In the early years of narrative cinema there was little pressure on filmmakers for the ‘evolution of film forms before nickelodeons’ (Salt, 1990, pp31) as cinema neither became a mass nor high cultural product and was still a novelty but ‘Production companies’ profits were based principally on the sales of longer fiction films’ in the later years (Musser, 1990, pp256) so focus was made for the production of popular narratives so I will show how the early development of narrative evolved from trick films to complex narrative. I will analyse the short film Mary Jane’s Mishap (1903, Smith) and an extract from the seminal The Birth of a Nation (1915, D.W.Griffith). Mary Jane’s Mishap was made when ‘multi-scene films were becoming popular’ (Salt, 1990, pp32) It is notable for its use of experimental transitions. To ‘separate successive scenes’ (Salt, 1990, pp32) Smith used vertical wipes to transition to wider framed shot. This efficiently showed an ellipsis in time from the funeral to people visiting her grave. D.W.Griffith also used inventive shots but popularised them rather than inventing them, such as tracking shots adding pace the characters movement and the narrative. In the silent-era of film insert titles were important in explaining the narrative to the primitive viewer not well-versed in film, especially in films where the audience were not familiar with the story unlike ‘Porters The Night before Christmas‘(Musser, 1990, pp258). Griffith used insert titles which ‘changed around 1905 into summaries of the action’ (Burch, 1990, pp221) As the film had a ‘self-sufficient narrative’ (Burch, 1990, pp221) that ran for over three hours, with poor camera quality to recognise characters. But they were ‘systematically anticipating t... ...ows this film as being a transition between the early trick films and narrative cinema. The Birth of a Nation has evolved in ‘relation to the articulation between shots in term of space and time’ (Gunning, 1990, pp89) it is of the third and fourth cinà ©-genres. As the ‘multi-shot narrative’ of approximately three hours long is edited as to the ‘cut is de-emphazised’ (Gunning, 1990, pp89) and is placed in the ‘fourth genre’ as the plot is disrupted through parallel editing (Gunning, 1990, pp90). In conclusion, we can see in film narrative The Birth of a Nation has progressed from the trick film narrative of Mary Jane’s Mishap to being identified according to Gunning as being of the third genre, due to both profitability and popularity of realistic cinema Moving from being of theatrical proscenium to complex cinematography to tell a story suited for the screen.

Java Calendar Tutorial Essay

Introduction This tutorial is designed to provide you with an understanding of the Java Calendar class, it’s backgrounds, purpose and uses. It is created in such a manner as to allow even beginning Java programmers an understanding and feel for the uses of the Java Calendar class. The Java Calendar class was added to the Java Development Kit in JDK 1.1. It is designed to permit the conversion between a specific instance in time and a set of Calendar fields. (Oracle, 2004, 2010) What exactly does this mean? The Calendar class uses a huge array of tables to keep track of time based on daylight savings time, timezones, and calendar history, the calendar class uses a system time to determine where whatever event is being tracked falls on in the internal calendar tables. Some confusion is caused by this as Java does keep track of specific location time, and the programmer needs to keep this in mind when using the Calendar class even when it isn’t relevant to the problem being addressed ( Roedy Green, Canadian Mind Products, 1196-2011). How to use the Calendar Class The Calendar Class and it’s associated methods are used by three methods. The programmer can import the calendar class and whatever specific method or constructor they will use in their program by importing it as importjava.util.specificfunction; For instance, if the programmer wished to set the date within a program, but that was all that was needed, for instance no date specific math was needed as in a log file, then the programmer could use, importjava.util.Calendar.set; If the programmer needs to have greater functionality associated with the dates being used within a program the programmer should use the entire Calendar class. This takes up more space within a program, however provides a much simpler method of calling items from the Java Calendar class as all of it’s functionality is available to the entire program. This format would simply be, importjava.util.Calendar; Finally the programmer can call within the program any specific function required within the Calendar class by using a fully qualified name for the method being used, if the programmer wished to use the set function once within a program and that was all that was needed the programmer could simply use public void java.util.Calendar.set For ease of use of associated Java Calendar methods and constructs however it is generally recommended that the programmer use the import function and import the entire Calendar class. This provides for significantly less time coding, and less possibility of mistakes in typing out commands and code as less code is necessary. Melissa Robinsons Section Every so often a program wishes to know something about a date, such as what day of the week something took place or maybe you would like to know which of the 12 months have 30 days. This can be completed with the Calendar class within the java.util package. The very first thing that should be done is to import the package: import java.util.Calendar; The next thing to do is to get an instance of the Calendar class: Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance( ); Be aware that the constructor cannot directly be called upon with new Calendar( );, since it’s an abstract class. The next thing to do is set the date and time of what is wanted to know about certain things: cal.set(year, month, day); For the month parameter, January is 0, February is 1, March is 2, etc. The constants Calendar.MONTH can also be used. Each and every calendar has a set of boundaries that are automatically updated when the calendar is altered. The get ( ) method can access these and a set of constants that characterize a number of available fields. So it can be noted that some very precise things can be done with the calendar now. For example, the week of the year that a day falls on can be found by using: int week = cal.get(Calendar.WEEK_OF_YEAR) Or  For example. Use the getActualMaximum() to find the number of days in a  certain month: intdaysInMonth = cal.getActualMaximum(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH); Here are some fields that may be useful within the Calendar Class: * DAY_OF_WEEK – Returns the day of the week that a day falls on, 1 through 7 days. * DAY_OF_YEAR – Returns the number of days into the year that the date occurs * WEEK_OF_MONTH – Returns the week number in the current month where the date occurs * DAY_OF_MONTH – Returns the current day of the month Andrew McCutchan’s Section Examples of Calendar Class Use: Below are some typical examples of the usage of the java calendar class. /* Java Calendar Follow along with this example in a text editor to have java show todays date and time. */ import java.util.Calendar; public class JavaCalendar { public static void main (string[] args) { Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance() ; System.out.println(â€Å"Today is : † + cal.getTime() ) ; By following the formats for cal.get instances mentioned above, one can find the various dates, times, weeks, and months in current formats, or in predetermined periods. This method allows programmers to set specific time constraints when coding for specific results. End of Section Methods Within the Calendar Class There are many methods within the calendar class. Methods are used for querying, setting, and doing arithmetic on the various fields of the date and time. The most commonly used methods are: * add( ) * set( ) * roll( ) References 1. Oracle. Danish Physician Hans Christian Gram Stain, Escherichia...

Gram Staining: Micrococcus leteus, Escherichia coli, and Unknown Colony Ethan Hinkle Microbiology Lab 3051, Section 001 Instructor: Harrison Taylor February 9, 2015 This report represents my individual effort. I did not receive or offer aid to anyone when performing this assignment, nor did I plagiarize any material. Signed: __________________________________________________________ INTRODUCTION In 1884, Danish Physician Hans Christian Gram was in the process of developing a staining procedure that would potentially differentiate prokaryotic (mainly bacterial cells) and eukaryotic nuclei in tissue samples. However, Gram was not effective in developing the differential tissue stain, his derived work would serve as the most valuable differential stain in bacteriology, the Gram-stain (1). Moreover, it soon became clear that most bacteria could be catorgorized into two major groups based upon their response to the Gram-staining procedure. Gram-positive bacteria stained purple, whereas Gram-negative bacteria stained a pink-red (2). Complete structures of Gram-positive and Gram-negative cells were not differentiable until the development of the transmission electron microscope. Gram-positive bacteria comprise of a singular, 20-80nm thick homogenous layer of peptidoglycan just outside the plasma membrane. In comparison, Gram-negative have two apparent layers: a 2-7nm thick peptidoglycan layer incased in a 7-8nm thick outer membrane. The most distinct
